Description

NAMI Metro Baltimore invites Baltimore City and County high school Sophomores and Juniors to participate in #IWillListen. This one day event will help students better understand mental health—and learn the impact of listening.

Event Details

Half of all lifetime cases of mental health conditions, including depression and anxiety, will begin by age 14. For youth experiencing a mental health condition or who know someone living with mental illness, it can be difficult to know where to turn for support or how to ask for help. It's important to know you're not alone.

#IWillListen will inspire you to bring the skills and strategies learned back to your school to continue the mental health conversation.

What's covered:

- Mental Health 101—Knowing the Signs and Stressors for Student

- Taking Care of Yourself and Managing Stress

- NAMI In Our Own Voice: Hear Personal Stories of Living with Mental Illness

- Combating Stigma and Engaging Your School, Family, and Friends

- Community Resources for Mental Health and Wellness

This event is free, and breakfast, lunch, door prizes, and t-shirts will be provided. Space is limited and registration is required.

About #IWillListen

#IWillListen is a movement created by NAMI New York City to challenge stigma and show people who need to talk that there are people willing to listen. In Baltimore, the movement has already engaged and educated over 1,600 students on 6 Baltimore-area college campuses in fall 2017. This one-day program will bring the core message of #IWillListen, which encourages listening as a way to support others, to high school students.
