The State House Inn, owned and operated by Naval Academy graduate Lieutenant Commander Marc Lucas, provides all the amenities of a hotel combined with the charm of a historic inn in the heart of Annapolis. Relax in spacious guest rooms with extraordinary views of downtown and Annapolis Harbor conveniently located on State Circle, about .5 mile from the Naval Academy. The State House Inn stands three stories tall and is at least 200, and possibly 300, years old. It has undergone a variety of restorations - the most recent addition in 1900. You can see the bones of the original building from Chancery Lane, possibly the most photographed site in Annapolis because of the way it perfectly frames the illuminated dome of Maryland’s State House. The alley was allegedly part the path taken by George Washington returning to Mount Vernon on December 23, 1783, after resigning his commission in the State House. Once a private residence, the structure has been the home of Maryland Governors and Annapolitan Mayors. Despite undergoing numerous address changes, the grand structure now stands at 200 Main Street and 25 State Circle as of 2001. For over one hundred years the building has provided lodging and food as the Capital Hotel and Restaurant, Muhlmeister’s Ice Cream and the Hampton House Restaurant.
